REFERENCE TRACK MIXING & MASTERING

Reference track masteringmake your song sound like the one you love.

Every engineer works with a reference: a released song whose sound they want to reach. With MixingMusic.AI you upload that song and your mix moves toward it in tone, dynamics and loudness.

THE CHALLENGE

Listen to the problem first.

Comparing against a reference by ear is slow and misleading: the louder song always sounds better, and it is hard to tell whether you are missing low end, brightness or compression.

THE DIRECTION

Decisions with intent.

We measure the reference in 8 frequency bands, its integrated loudness (LUFS), its dynamic range (LRA) and how far its peaks stand out (PLR). When you export the mix, or master it, your song is matched to those measurements with safe limits: never more than ±5 dB per band and peaks protected at −1 dBFS.

Tone8 bands · at most ±5 dB per band
DynamicsLoudness range (LRA, EBU R128)
LoudnessIntegrated LUFS (ITU-R BS.1770) between −20 and −7
Peaks−1 dBFS in the mixer · −1.2 dBFS in Mastering
RECOMMENDED FLOW

Three steps. You keep control.

01

Upload your mix or stems

In the mixer from stems, or in Mastering with a stereo mix.

02

Pick the reference track

An MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC of a song in the same genre whose sound you like.

03

Export and compare

Your song is matched to its tone, dynamics and loudness; you see the measured before and after.

CHOOSING THE REFERENCE

The right reference does half the work

The result depends more on the song you pick than on any setting.

Same genre

A reggaeton reference for a ballad pushes your song toward low end and compression it does not need.

Similar arrangement

If your song is voice and guitar, pick an acoustic reference, not a production with synths and 808s.

Best quality

A WAV or high-quality MP3 of the released version; avoid lossy YouTube rips.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a reference track?

A released song whose sound you want for yours. Mixing and mastering engineers use it to compare tonal balance, loudness and dynamics.

What exactly is taken from the reference?

Three measurements: the tonal balance in 8 bands (from sub bass to air), the integrated loudness in LUFS and the dynamic range (LRA). It never copies the melody, the arrangement or the audio.

Can I use a Suno song as a reference?

Yes, or the other way round: match your Suno song to a professional track in your genre. MixingMusic.AI is not affiliated with Suno.

Will my song end up identical to the reference?

No, and it should not. It moves toward its tone and dynamics within safe limits (±5 dB per band, loudness between −20 and −7 LUFS). If your mix was already more compressed than the reference, we tell you: lost dynamics cannot be given back.

If I use it in the mixer and then master, is it processed twice?

No. Mastering recognizes that the mix was already matched to the reference on export and only protects the peaks.

Do you store the reference track?

No. We only keep its measurements (a handful of numbers), so the reference stays in your session without storing the audio.

Is it in the free plan?

No, reference tracks are an Unlimited feature (one payment, no subscription).
