In MixingMusic you choose a length from 1:00 to 4:00 in 15-second steps (up to 2:30 on the free plan). Each song uses one from your balance regardless of length, so pick the length that serves the song.
Length by purpose
- Streaming release: 2:30–3:30 is common for pop and urban genres.
- Gift or personal song: 1:30–2:30. Long enough to feel complete, short enough to play at a party.
- Social video: generate 1:00–2:00 and cut the best 15–30 seconds.
- Demo for a band: the full intended length, so musicians hear the whole structure.
- Ballads and epic tracks: up to 4:00, with space for a bridge and a final chorus.
Lyric density
A rough guide: around 2:00 holds two verses and two choruses; 3:00–4:00 adds a pre-chorus, a bridge and a final chorus. Too many lyrics for the length is the most common cause of compressed or skipped sections.
Intros and outros
Short intros (a few seconds) get to the hook faster, which matters for streaming. Add an [Outro] tag if you want a clean ending.
Reference recordings
When you start from your voice, the song follows the length of your recording, up to the plan limit.
