Trap is defined by its rhythm section: sliding 808s, fast hi-hat rolls and sparse melodies. The vocal flow matters as much as the beat.
Style prompts
- Dark trap, sliding 808, rolling hi-hats, eerie piano, aggressive male rap, 140 BPM (half-time feel)
- Melodic trap, 808, ambient guitar, emotional autotuned vocal
- Latin trap, 808, dark synths, Spanish rap verses, melodic chorus
Trap is often written around 130–150 BPM with a half-time feel.
Writing bars that flow
- Keep a consistent syllable rhythm within each bar.
- Put internal rhymes in the middle of lines, not only at the end.
- Contrast: rapped verses, sung chorus.
Avoid naming real people or brands, and avoid lyrics from existing songs.
Instrumental beats
If you want a beat to rap over yourself, switch on instrumental mode, add the tempo and key, and describe the space you need: minimal, room for vocals.
Mix tips
The 808 can overwhelm small speakers. Lower the bass stem 1–2 dB if the vocal disappears, and check the kick and 808 are not fighting.
